BUHARI BROKE THE ICE AGAIN
BUHARI FINALY SPEAKS: “Fellow Nigerians, People accuse me of many things.
But one thing they never accuse me of is corruption. They never accuse me of mediocrity, or of lying. People accuse me of many things. I have led this country and I have a record. We were not perfect, but we were effective; we solved problems, and we made Nigerians proud. In our government, we fought corruption, we stabilized the Naira, and we shut down insurgency. We shouldn’t forget
so soon that there was the Maitatsine ravaging the North east and we dealt with it. We also overran the Chadian rebels. We rebuilt industries, Nigerians
queued up and treated each other with respect; Nigerians
took pride in our reputation for discipline.
The world admired us. We were proud to be Nigerians. However, because they can’t attack our record, they accuse me falsely of ethnic jingoism; they accuse me falsely of religious fundamentalism. Because they cannot attack our record, they
accuse us falsely of calling for election violence – when we have only insisted on peace. Even as Head of State, we never imposed Shariah. All my running mates
have been either Igbo or Yoruba and are always devout Christian
of indisputable repute. I have and will continue to condemn
those who burn God’s places of worship, be they churches or mosques and wish God’s judgment upon them. As your President, their punishment
won’t stop there, we will also ensure Boko Haram and other such elements, are found, are arrested and face the full wrath of the law as punishment for their crimes against our country.
My dear friends, this is very important to note: It doesn’t matter if you are Igbo,Yoruba, Ijaw, Hausa, Idoma, Efik, Ekwere, Urhobo, Igala and, no, it does not matter if you are Christian, Muslim, animist or atheist: we need a new direction under a new leadership. The task ahead will be challenging and daunting, but it is surmountable. This is what leadership is about. My only desire is to prove to you that
Nigeria can truly work. Allow me prove to you that in your lifetime, you can be proud of this country.
Let me make you this promise today: We will protect your children. We will protect your wealth. We will make this country work again. This is why I am running for the office of the president of Nigeria. This is my promise.” – Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR).

JONATHAN ESCAPED DEATH IN KATSINA
BY Leon Usigbe - Katsina
SECURITY forces, on Tuesday, averted what was potentially an ugly situation, as hundreds of supporters chanting ‘sai Buhari’ attacked the motorcade of President Goodluck Jonathan in Katsina.
A combined unit of soldiers and anti-riot policemen dispersed the supporters as they surged forward with the intent to attack the president and his delegation, as they visited the house of Hajia Dada, mother of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua in her residence at Yar’Adua Quarters, Katsina.
There was palpable tension as the president’s convoy drove past the area, with hundreds of Buhari supporters brandishing brooms, the APC symbol and welcoming the president with chants of “sai Buhari,” while some could be heard calling Jonathan “arna,” an unbeliever.
The president was about to emerge from the residence of Hajia Dada when the crowd suddenly started to surge towards his convoy, but the timely intervention of the security forces who fired canisters of tear gas provided cover for the convoy to speed away.
As the convoy sped towards the Katsina Airport, the crowd hurled stones at it, but nobody was hurt in the motorcade.
With the president were Vice President Namadi Sambo, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State, ministers, other top members of PDP leadership, among others.
As the president’s aircraft took off for Abuja, members of his advance party staying behind were advised to hide their identity, in...

SPREAD SOME CHEERS
"Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad” (Proverbs 12:25).
There are increasing number of problems in the world today. With the collapse of many economies, jobs are failing fast, businesses are collapsing and homes are crumbling. Our newsstands are daily filled with stories of gloom – terrorists’ attacks, kidnappings, outbreaks of strange diseases with no known medical cure, uprisings, natural disasters and daily forecast and predictions of future woes. Coupled with these are the innumerable personal and family problems that many face. All these seem to live one with no desire to want to continue to live, hence the increasing rate of suicides and attempted suicides everywhere.
The sad reactions to these are the antagonisms, bitterness, brutality and violence being experienced everywhere. To survive, many have devised false methods. Nobody seems to be...

The Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke, who is also the the chairperson of OPEC, made the announcement on the country’s network station, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). In his own words;
“I will like to announce the reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit by N10. Therefore, the reduction would be from N97 per litre to N87 per litre and this would be effective from midnight Sunday, January 18, 2015. In line with this I have directed the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) and the Directorate of Petroleum Resources to ensure that there is strict adherence of this regime as it takes effect from midnight Sunday, January 18. I do hope that the entire country will benefit immensely from this reduction of the pump price,”
Allison-Madueke said.
Nigerians have called for a price reduction in recent weeks as global oil prices continue to fall. The price of OPEC basket of twelve crudes, which includes Nigeria’s Bonny Light, stood at $43.14 a barrel on Thursday. The continued slump in prices have made several countries in Africa and beyond slash retail price of fuel, but prices have remained the same in Nigeria until midnight on Sun.

The order which was contained in a press statement issued by Mr. Peter Okhiria, Chief Press Secretary to governor, said it was part of ongoing audit to rid the system of parasites feasting on the patrimony of Edo people.
According to the statement, the students of the School of Nursing affiliated to Igbinedion University, have until now used government hospitals free of charge over the years even when they pay their fees to the Igbinedion University.
It would be recalled that the state government had earlier terminated an agreement to train medical students of the university at its specialist hospitals over debts totalling N350 million.

YOU FAILED NOT MY GENERATION- FASHOLA TO JONATHAN
Governor Fashola yesterday disagreed with President Jonathan that this generation has failed Nigeria.
The President made the statement during the flag off of his campaign team in TBS Lagos last thursday.
Fashola however reacted at the 2015, First Quarter of the Town Hall meeting with stakeholders in the transportation sector held in Agidingbi, Ikeja, which also had in attendance Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and others.
The governor urged Jonathan to accept responsibility over his failure to address the challenges confronting the nation over the last six years of his administration rather than point accusing fingers to past leaders, "late President Musa Yar 'Adua's short tenure was better than that of this administration."
While reacting, Fashola quoted Jonathan and said "He (Jonathan) said his generation has failed, he should account for himself because I refuse to join the generation the President was referring to.
He added, "He is in his 50s, I am also in my 50s, and we appear to be, because I don't even want to join that generation because my own generation has not failed, I have done well on my job and I am proud to say so. If he has failed, let him account for himself, he should not join us".
