A recent study, published
online ahead of print in JAMA Ophthalmology, looked at the link between trace
metals and glaucoma prevalence in 2,680 South Korean patients 19 years and
older. They found that participants with glaucoma had significantly lower blood
manganese levels vs. patients without glaucoma.
They also discovered patients with glaucoma had higher blood mercury levels vs. those without the
disease.
