EXPERIMENTAL EYE DROPS CLEARS CATARACT IN HUMAN LENS TISSUE AND MICE

A chemical was shown to clear cataracts in mice and human eye lens tissue in lab experiments, and researchers have already licensed it to a company to develop for human use.
The chemical is soluble enough to be used as an eye drop, researchers said, making for a far easier -- and cheaper -- method of treating the blinding condition, referred to as the "holy grail in ophthalmology."

 Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote quit the board of Dangote Flour Mills today, as the company now majority controlled by South Africa’s Tiger Brand faces an unertain future.
Dangote who holds a 10 percent equity stake in the company resigned along with three other directors,Olakunle Alake, Asue Ighodalo and Arnold Ekpe,  following Tiger Brands’ announcement that it’s cutting off further financing of the troubled firm, which produces pasta and flour.
“Tiger Brands has decided not to provide further financial support with respect to its investment in Tiger Branded Consumer Goods plc of Nigeria,” the company said in a statement.

RIVERS STATE TOPS LIST OF HIV/AIDS PREVALENCE IN NIGERIA

With 15.5 per cent, Rivers state topped the new prevalence chart of HIV/AIDS prevalence states in Nigeria.
According to NAN, the rating came as a result of test carried out on persons living with HIV/AIDS.
Taraba with 10.5 per cent is second, while Kaduna has 9.2 per cent to be on the third, on the new list.
Nasarawa, FCT, Akwa Ibom, Sokoto, Oyo and Benue are on the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth spots respectively on the chart.
Speaking on Sunday during the launch of the `Guinness World Record on HIV Test’ in Markurdi, Benue state capital, Eunice Ortom, wife of the state governor, said Benue had recorded tremendous achievement in its fight against the virus.
Ortom, who is also the chairman, board of governors for Benue State Aids Control Agency (BENSACA), said Benue had over the years been rated highest in HIV and AIDS prevalence, adding that with such laudable HIV test event, it was indicative that the journey to achieving zero case was “just a mile away”.
